Innovation
Quality in business, engineering
and manufacturing has a pragmatic interpretation as the non-inferiority or
superiority of something. Quality is a perceptual, conditional and somewhat
subjective attribute and may be understood differently by different people.
Consumers may focus on the specification quality of a product/service, or how it
compares to competitors in the marketplace. Producers might measure the
conformance quality, or degree to which the product/service was produced
correctly.
Technology
Technology can be most broadly
defined as the entities, both material and immaterial, created by the
application of mental and physical effort in order to achieve some value. In
this usage, technology refers to tools and machines that may be used to solve
real-world problems. It is a far-reaching term that may include simple tools,
such as a crowbar or wooden spoon, or more complex machines, such as a space
station or particle accelerator. Tools and machines need not be material;
virtual technology, such as computer software and business methods fall under
this definition of technology.
Quality
The term innovation refers to a new way of doing something. It may refer to
incremental, radical, and revolutionary changes in thinking, products,
processes, or organizations. A distinction is typically made between invention,
an idea made manifest, and innovation, ideas applied successfully. In many
fields, something new must be substantially different to be innovative, not an
insignificant change, e.g., in the arts, economics, business and government
policy. In economics the change must increase value, customer value, or producer
value. The goal of innovation is positive change, to make someone or something
better. Innovation leading to increased productivity is the fundamental source
of increasing wealth in an economy.
